What We Do with the Offcuts

Nothing is wasted at the Yarn Ball Boutique. The offcuts from a scarf become the stuffing in a mouse, the stuffing in a mouse becomes the tail of a smaller mouse, and the tail of the smaller mouse, I am sure, goes on to be something else in a place I do not ask about. Wool is a generous material. It likes to be reused.

In the back room, I keep a large basket for scraps, sorted by colour and mood. It holds, I think, about forty metres of thread, and a good deal more, if we count what has gone into the walls. The basket never seems to be empty. I often come in at night to tidy it, and find that it has grown. I find that rather comforting.
